INFORMATION ISLA MARGARITA
General Information

Margarita is the biggest and most important island in Venezuela, and together with the islands of Coche and Cubagua it makes up the federal state of Nueva Esparta.

Attractions
There are many magnificent fortresses, churches and small villages on the island, as well as beautiful beaches and lagoons. Margarita offers everything from rainforest to desert, so there is a lot to explore when you travel around the island.

Location
Margarita is situated in the Southern part of the Caribbean Sea, about approximately 38 kilometers from the shores of the main land.

Size
Margarita is about 920 km2.

Language
The official language is Spanish, but many places on the island you will find people who speak English.

Population
The local population on Margarita amounts to approximately 450.000 inhabitants.

Religion
Roman Catholic.

Visa
Many nationalities (e.g. Scandinavians and most citizens of Latin American- and EU countries) can enter Venezuela by air without visa for 90 days. Please check which visa rules apply to your nationally by contacting the Foreign Ministry or the Venezuelan Embassy / Consulate of your country. The passport has to be valid for 6 months beyond your stay in Venezuela.
